Kainos
A unified digital experience

Challenge
Kainos had a new “One Kainos” strategy but still operated two distinct websites targeting separate business areas and audiences. The digital experience felt fragmented. Users struggled to navigate between the Digital Services arm and Workday Practice. Design across platforms lacked unity, accessibility standards were inconsistent, and lead generation was underperforming.
The challenge was to create a unified, user-friendly experience that reflects the brand’s growth and supports its goals.
Approach
Understanding how each audience interacts with Kainos was essential. Research included stakeholder interviews, customer interviews, persona development, and mapping the full customer journey. Insights guided the new site structure and navigation.
By focusing on where visitors start, how they learn, and what actions they take, the design strategy aimed to bring clarity, consistency, and ease of use to the full digital ecosystem.

Solution
A refreshed information architecture lets visitors move seamlessly between services under a unified brand, while still supporting service-specific content. A modular UI system was built, featuring reusable templates and components to ensure visual and functional consistency across devices.
Accessibility was built in from the start, targeting WCAG 2.1 AA compliance through accessible colour choices, typography, and layouts. Interactive prototypes and usability testing were used to refine complex filters and navigation before launch.
Impact
The new site launched in May 2021, merging over 25,000 pages into a cohesive, responsive digital experience. Lead conversions doubled from 1% to 3% and search traffic increased by 2.5x.
The modular design system allows for future scalability. Clients and internal teams now enjoy a strong, unified brand presence, and users can access the right services quickly and easily, on any device.
